He was a young black stallion named Alumbrado. Imported from Scotsdale, Arizona by Bill Hazelaar of Lumsden and Joe Schlotter of Regina. Alumbrado commanded great interest at local fairs around Regina. He was shortly followed to Saskatchewan by some Peruvian mares and within a few years more people were bringing peruvian horses into Canada. The Saskatchewan Peruvian Horse Club was not officially formed until 1983, at that time the club also became a corporate member of the Saskatchewan Horse Federation. Our Club objectives are to build a club with members who are interested in promoting, improving, expanding and of course just enjoying the breed. The benefits of becoming a member include meeting great people and comraderie, learning and sharing information about the peruvian horse, and knowing that you are a member of an organization that assists in the preservation of this wonderful unique breed.
